Trinity Spears Interview

Q: Pleasure to meet you. You’re Trinity Spears? A new author recently signed with Fernweh Publishing?
A: Yes! Pleasure to meet you, as well. Yes, I was recently signed with Fernweh Publishing and I’m pretty excited to be represented by the fine folks at Fernweh Publishing.

Q: How long have you been writing for?
A: I’ve always been writing. Since I was in high school, I wanted to be a writer. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a whole lot of support from my parents so my life went in a bit of a different direction for a while.

Q: Really? What have you done?
A: Let’s see… I worked in food service for most of my adult life now. Worked in call centers doing customer service and tech support and now I’m in the business of writing erotic romance.

Q: Did you do any writing between high school and now? Like, did you take journalism or study literature in college?
A: No… actually, I’m ashamed to admit that I never graduated from college or university. Life was pretty crazy back when I was seventeen or eighteen. My parents were going through a divorce so it was a stressful time in my life and I spent a few years there kinda lost and, to tell you the truth, I was homeless for a while. I did do some writing over the years for my own enjoyment but at the time there was no Amazon or Kindle so most of the stuff that I wrote never got published. I also tried writing non-fiction for a while but nothing that ever made it to print.

Q: Wow! So you never really studied writing or literature or even graduated from college.
A: No… I was accepted to a really good college in upstate New York that had an outstanding journalism and literature department and I was all set to go but my parents kinda laughed at me and told me I was stupid and that I’d never make a living as a writer.

Q: Well, you taught them a thing or two, haven’t you?
A: We’ll see… we’ll see. I just signed with Fernweh and they’re helping me to release my first series, The Billionaire’s Very Personal Assistant. I think it’s good and it was a lot of fun to write and I think readers who are into office romance with a little spice will enjoy it, but we’ll see.

Q: Don’t you feel you’re a little late to the whole “Alpha Male Billionaire” craze that was so popular a year or two ago?
A: Honestly, I think that readers will never tire of the idea of a strong man and a strong woman growing and exploring life together. It’s a classic trope and one that I enjoy writing. I have a feeling that it doesn’t matter what the trope is, if it’s well written and just a little different, you can have a successful book and an interesting story.

Q: So, The Billionaire’s Very Personal Assistant is different? How?
A: Well, I enjoy reading in the genre that I write in and I found that there were a lot of stories out there with big, strong men who happened to be billionaires but they lacked that romantic vibe that I wanted to read about. Also, the women were often very weak and there wasn’t a whole lot of chemistry between the main characters.

Q: But your story is different?
A: I think so *smile*. The way Barrett and Alexi play off of each other as well as the sexual chemistry and personal chemistry makes it different. Both of them are wounded, to a degree… and both of them deep down inside want each other… there’s true love there just beneath the surface and it’s up to Alexi to bring it out of Barrett. But there’s also that sexual chemistry and you can see that right off the bat in the first book. They click on every level but Alexi is given the sexual freedom to kinda do what she wants… that’s in the first book, as well. It’s just… different. Barrett gets her to do some pretty freaky stuff but he’s not actually forcing her… there’s consent and desire. He sorta brings out her inner slut.

Q: But do they wind up together in the end?
A: LOL! You’re gonna have to read the series to find out, won’t cha now?

Q: OK, OK… tell me more about your offerings or novels that you have ready to be released.
A: Honestly, all of this has sort of taken me by surprise. I do have several other books in various stages of “done” but The Billionaire’s Very Personal Assistant was the series Fernweh decided should be my first.

Q: Can you tell us about some of the others, though?
A: OK… I have one series about a housewife turned hot wife who goes on a series of adventures at her husband’s urging. The series follows the wife’s progression from demure, church-going wife to uber-slut as she… well, I don’t want to give too much away but that’s the basic premise.

Q: And anything else?
A: I have another series that deals with a girl fresh out of college looking for a job as well as a desire to find a wealthy guy to take care of her and eventually marry.

Q: That one sounds interesting.
A: Yeah… a classic trope of a spicy office romance but it’s been awhile since I worked on that one so I sorta forget the plot line.

Q: You forget the plot line? You’re kidding, right?
A: No LOL! Honestly, I write stuff sometimes and forget about it and when I come back I sorta remember where I was heading or… think to myself “wow, this is pretty good. I wonder how it turns out?”

Q: How do you write? I mean, how do you decide what’s going to happen. Are you a plotter or a pantser? Do you plot everything out or do you write by the seat of your pants and just sit down and write?
A: I tend to do a little of both. I get an idea for a story and I think of how I want it to be or the path I want these characters to follow and then I start writing based on a rough outline. Well, actually, I think of the characters. I often do a rough outline of who they are as a person, what they’re like, what they’ve gone through in life… their likes and dislikes… then I let them go. I let them tell me the story. I follow them as they lead. Sounds crazy, I know.

Q: No, not at all. So you actually wrote out who Alexi was as a person?
A: Sure! I remember writing about how she was down on her luck, working as a waitress with this huge student loan debt, piece of junk car and how she was still kinda wounded over her breakup and losing her boyfriend… how she had sorta turned to the slutty side to ease the pain. She started with online dating and eventually got tired of the bullshit and weak men who tried to woo her with dinner and a movie while all they really wanted to do was fuck her… and how she just wanted the attention…. To feel desired and wanted so she had turned to posting ads to Craigslist so she could get laid. How she’s meeting a guy and sometimes not even talk to him before he fucked her.

Q: And Barrett?
A: Well, Barrett’s a billionaire and kind of a dick but that’s for a reason. Being a billionaire isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, when you think about it. People want to be friends with you for all the wrong reasons. Women want you for your money and the things that money can buy so he’s kind of a recluse… failed marriages, a son who hates him and old friends he doesn’t talk to anymore… lives alone in a small but quaint house by the lake with a sailboat. Has a private jet and the ability to do anything he wants in life or buy anything he needs but he chooses to be alone after this last divorce… then along comes Alexi.

Q: And she’s different.
A: We’ll see *wink*

Q: Well, it’s been a pleasure talking with you, Trinity. Where can people get a copy of The Billionaire’s Very Personal Assistant?
A: We’re gonna be putting it out on InstaFreebie first to try to get the book in the hands of as many readers as possible. Once the fine folks at Fernweh are happy with the number of readers we have, we’ll be releasing book two… then book three after that. I’m not sure of the timeline. They’re taking care of all that but I’ll get a link to you once it’s up, OK?

Q: Sounds good. We wish you all the success in the world and hope your dreams come true. What is your dream, by the way?
A: My dream? Ummm… dream number one is already underway or been accomplished now that I have a book that’s going to be published. As far as the big dream, I just want people to read my books and get some enjoyment out of them… if I can write stuff that people enjoy and if Fernweh is able to get me an audience that enjoys my work then I guess everything else will fall into line.

Q: You mean money.
A: Money, contentment… feeling like I’m doing what I was put on this earth to do… give people stories that they can become lost in… that can inspire them… make them feel good. That’s my goal. I feel that money is the universe’s way of responding to that… put something out into the universe that makes people feel good and I’ll be rewarded. That’s how I think… actually.
